# Deployment Core > A public evidence layer for U.S. nuclear deployment. It tracks which companies > are building new-design reactors, how far each has actually got, and what > document proves it. Every number on the site links to a source. Data as of 2026-08-06. This is a tracked sample, not a census. ## What the site measures Companies race to put one gigawatt of new-design nuclear on the U.S. grid. Each company's capacity is split into bands by how strong the evidence is. A megawatt sits in exactly one band, so the bands never double-count. - **Operational** (0 MWe, 0 companies): Grid-connected and generating commercial power. Granting authority: Grid operator. - **Nuclear construction** (365 MWe, 2 companies): NRC construction permit issued and physical nuclear work documented. Granting authority: NRC. - **DOE-authorized build** (75 MWe, 1 company): Built under a DOE authorization pathway with physical work documented. Not an NRC license to operate. Granting authority: DOE. - **Under review** (1,220 MWe, 3 companies): Construction-permit or combined-license application docketed and in active regulator review. Granting authority: NRC. - **Contracted** (321 MWe, 2 companies): An executed, funded agreement for a named project, whether offtake, order, delivery, or development funding, not yet in regulator review. Each claim says which kind it is. Granting authority: Counterparty. - **Announced, non-binding** (40,075 MWe, 13 companies): MOU, LOI, master agreement, or announced target. No executed project documents. Granting authority: None. ## The headline numbers - No company has generated a commercial megawatt. Operational capacity is 0 MWe. - 440 MWe is physically under construction. - 1,981 MWe rests on an executed action of any kind, including applications filed. - 40,075 MWe has been announced without binding documents. - Announced capacity is about 20x everything executed, and about 91x what is being built. ## Rules that govern the numbers - Binding and non-binding capacity are never added together. - Test reactors and critical experiments count 0 MWe. A criticality proves the physics works. It is not electricity and not a licence to sell any. - A company-stated target never moves a megawatt between bands. Only a documented action does. - U.S. megawatts only. The same design built abroad counts 0 MWe here. - A DOE authorization is not an NRC licence. The bands keep them apart. ## Companies 1. **TerraPower** (Natrium, 345 MWe per unit, Grid-scale SMR) - Strongest state: Nuclear construction · 345 MWe - Capacity: 345 MWe nuclear construction; 3,490 MWe announced, non-binding - On the board because: NRC construction permit issued for Kemmerer Unit 1 and construction underway in Wyoming.
